One of the journeys waiting for you

From Orion to the nebulae

  1. MythologyThe myth of Orion
    Orion's story in the app

    Meet the hunter

A strange birth, a legendary hunter's arrogance and a deadly scorpion — until the gods placed him among the stars, opposite the scorpion, so the two would never meet again.

The hunter is still up there. Can you find him in the winter sky?

  2. ConstellationsHis constellation
The constellation of Orion in the app: best seen in winter, brightest star Rigel

    Spot him among the stars

The hero becomes a familiar shape in the night sky: three stars in a row form his Belt, red Betelgeuse shines on his shoulder and blue Rigel at his foot.

Below his Belt, a faint smudge you can see with the naked eye: the Orion Nebula. But what exactly is a nebula?

  3. AstronomyNebulae
    Nebulae in the app

    A stellar “nursery”

Nebulae are vast clouds of gas and dust. Some, like the Orion Nebula, are where new stars are born; others form when a star dies.

  • Perseus

Perseus still holds Medusa's head up in the sky — and it “winks” almost every three days.

  • Heracles

Twelve labors and a struggle for redemption that left its mark on the stars.

  • Persephone

Her abduction by Hades, Demeter's wrath and a constellation that returns every spring.

Why I made it

It all started
with curiosity

KonstantinosCreator of Mythic Universe

As a child, I was fascinated by the stories of Greek mythology. Later, their links to the night sky led me to discover more about the real universe.

I made Mythic Universe to share that curiosity: you start from something that interests you, and every discovery gives you a reason to keep going.

…and who knows… by the end, you might also realize that the real universe is even more “mythical” than the myths themselves.

FAQ

You might be wondering…

Who is it for?

Anyone who is captivated by a myth, gazes up at the night sky or wonders how the universe — and the world around us — works. Explore it on your own, share it with your children, bring it to the classroom or to your astronomy club.

Do I need to know astronomy?

Not at all. If you enjoy a good story, you're ready. Simple explanations do the rest; all it takes is a myth, a constellation or an astronomical phenomenon that sparks your curiosity.

How reliable is the content?

The texts were written and adapted for the app, based on Wikipedia and other astronomy and mythology sources. Selected information was cross-checked against NASA material and scientific publications. Some myths combine different traditions. You'll find references to the sources under “About” in the app.

Is it free?

Yes. No ads, no subscriptions, no hidden costs. Supporting its development is optional and doesn't unlock any extra content.

Do I have to explore everything in order?

Guided exploration helps you follow the connections, step by step. You can start from whichever topic interests you; there's also free exploration, if you'd rather choose your own path.

How accessible is it?

The app supports screen readers, and every myth is narrated. That makes it friendlier for people with low vision or dyslexia, and for children and families who prefer to listen to the story.

Which languages and devices does it support?

Mythic Universe is available in English and Greek, on Android and iOS (iPhone and iPad). You'll find it on Google Play and the App Store.

Finding objects in the sky works inside the app on Android. On iOS, it suggests planetarium apps you may already have (such as Sky Guide) or the online Stellarium Web, where you can find what you're looking for.

What's coming next?

The app keeps growing: new myths, constellations and astronomy topics are added regularly.

And the journey doesn't stop at the stars. Step by step, it will continue into the chemical elements, chemistry and, eventually, life: from the universe, to us.

How can I help or get in touch?

Tell me what you think — ideas, something that confused you or a mistake you spotted — at [email protected]. And if you're an expert in any of these topics and would like to contribute to the content, I'd love to hear from you.

You can support its development inside the app or via Ko-fi — or simply share it with someone you think will love it.

Which story will you follow?
